Non-Viable Lactobacillus Casei Beneficially Modulates Poly I:C Immune Response in Co-Cultures of Human Cells

Background: Polyinosinic:polycytidylic acid (Poly-IC) has been used as a viral stimulus to mimic in vivo and in vitro infection induced by some viruses. Objective: To determine whether non-viable Lactobacillus casei CRL431 (LcM) can modulate the immune response induced by Poly I:C in co-culture models of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) and A549 cells. Methods: T and NK cell activati...

Characteristics of a new strain of Bacillus popilliae sporogenic in vitro.

Conditions are described that led to the isolation of NRRL B-2309M, a strain of Bacillus popilliae which sporulates regularly in laboratory culture. Colonies grown on a medium formulated with yeast extract and the ingredients of Mueller-Hinton with phosphate, trehalose, and agar, produced 20% spores in 10 to 12 days. The quantity and kind of yeast extract determine the extent of sporulation, al...

بررسی اثرات کرایوپرزرویشن بر سلول های اپی تلیال قبل و بعد از جداسازی از پرده آمنیون انسانی

Background and purpose: One of the recent techniques for increasing the output of cryopreservation is using different scaffolds in long-term preservation of stem cells for cell therapy. Undesirable differentiation and decrease in the number of viable cells are two major problems in this process. In order to overcome these problems, in this study the human amniotic epithelial cells were cryopres...

Comparisons of cells, refractile bodies, and spores of Bacillus popilliae.

Spores of Bacillus popilliae from infected larvae and refractile bodies produced in a Trypticase-barbiturate medium were similar but distinct from vegetative cells of this organism in protein, nucleic acid, and enzyme composition. The spores and refractile bodies were found to have catalase activity, some of which was heat-resistant. This enzyme was not found in the vegetative cells. The spores...

Characteristics of the vegetative growth of Bacillus popilliae.

Growth characteristics of the insect pathogen, Bacillus popilliae Dutky, were studied by propagation in shaken flasks and in 2-liter fermentors. Maximal populations between 5 x 10(8) and 2 x 10(9) viable cells per milliliter of culture medium routinely were obtained in incubation periods of 18 to 24 hr at 30 C in a medium composed of 1.5% yeast extract, 0.6% K(2)HPO(4), and 0.2% glucose or treh...
